Data We Do Not Collect
FinnaTrip does not collect, transmit, or sell any personal information. We do not use analytics, tracking, or advertising SDKs. There are no user accounts on our servers because we don't operate servers — your data lives on your device and in your private iCloud account.
Data Stored on Your Device
All content you create in FinnaTrip — ideas, collections, trips, stays, transits, photos, and notes — is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. This data never leaves your device except through iCloud sync (described below) or when you explicitly export it.
iCloud Sync
If you're signed into iCloud, FinnaTrip uses Apple's CloudKit to sync your data across your devices. This data is stored in your private iCloud container, which only you can access. Apple's iCloud security and encryption policies apply. FinnaTrip does not have access to your iCloud data.
iCloud Sharing
When you share a trip with another person via iCloud, the shared trip data (itinerary, stays, transits) is stored in a shared CloudKit zone accessible only to the people you invite. You can revoke access at any time.
Sign In with Apple
FinnaTrip offers optional Sign In with Apple for identity verification when sharing trips. We store only the information Apple provides during sign-in (your name and email, if you choose to share them) locally on your device. This information is not transmitted to any server.
Location Data
FinnaTrip may request access to your location to power the nearby discovery feature, which shows points of interest, restaurants, and activities near you. Location data is used only in the moment to query third-party APIs and is never stored or transmitted beyond what's needed for each request. You can deny location access and use the app without this feature.
Third-Party Services
The nearby discovery feature uses the following APIs to find places and activities near you:
- Google Places API — to find restaurants and hotels
- Foursquare Places API — to find landmarks, attractions, and shops
- OpenTripMap API — to find cultural and historical points of interest
- Viator Partner API — to find bookable tours and activities
- Atlas Obscura — to find unusual and hidden places
When discovery is enabled, your approximate location (coordinates) is sent to these services to retrieve nearby results. No personal information is included in these requests. Each service has its own privacy policy governing how it handles location queries.
Photos
Photos you add to ideas or trips are stored locally and synced through your private iCloud container. FinnaTrip does not upload your photos to any third-party service.
Export and Import
When you export your data, a file is created on your device containing your ideas, trips, and photos. This file is shared only through the method you choose (AirDrop, email, Files, etc.). We never receive a copy of your exports.
Children's Privacy
FinnaTrip does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. The app does not require an account and does not collect personal data from any user.
Changes to This Policy
If we update this privacy policy, we'll post the revised version on this page with an updated effective date.
